INKRESSION Prologue
1. INT. TATTOO SHOP - AFTERNOON
1. INT. TATTOO SHOP - AFTERNOON
In a flashback to a casual day at The Blindfolded, the tattoo
shop where Milly works at, she prepares for the tattoo that
her client and friend, Blake, is going to get. While Milly
sets up, Blake tells her about an unpleasant encounter he has
just had.
MILLY
(casual, not paying attention)
And what did you do?
BLAKE
What am I supposed to do? Fight
him?
BLAKE
(agitated)
For real though--why is everyone
putting up with this dude acting
like he owns the block?
MILLY
(Mocking, friendly)
And you wanted to invite him into
your band??
BLAKE
That's different. We've had worse.
MILLY
There--how does that look?
BLAKE
Sick. I like it.
MILLY
Cool. Go ahead and lie down.
MILLY
Now that you're getting this piece–
(pause)
--I'm assuming you finally got
everyone you wanted?
BLAKE
More or less, yeah.
MILLY
Alright then, you ready?
BLAKE
Let's do it.
MILLY
Here we go.
Milly is working on the tattoo for Blake, while Blake
initiates casual chats with her. Milly responds mostly
without her full attention on the conversation, but on doing
the tattoo.
BLAKE
Gotta ask--how'd you feel about
Gloria getting onto the community
board?
MILLY
Fine with me.
MILLY (CONT’D)
Seems like a hardworking lady,
she's done a lot for Nortown too.
Why?
BLAKE
I don't know. Wasn't there rumor
that she immigrated illegally or
something?
MILLY
And?
MILLY (CONT’D)
Not like she did anything wrong to
us, right?
SOME TIME HAS PASSED SINCE DOING THE TATTOO.
BLAKE
(remembering)
Oh right--did your sister end up
choosing a harmonica?
MILLY
(confused)
Huh?
BLAKE
She didn't tell you?
BLAKE (CONT’D)
Molly texted me a few days ago
asking if I could recommend her any
good brands.
MILLY
(skeptical)
Wait--Molly?? Harmonica???
MILLY
No way.
BLAKE
Your sister is in college, Mil.
Maybe she wants to pick up some new
hobbies.
SOME TIME HAS PASSED SINCE DOING THE TATTOO.
BLAKE
Check this one out though--
BLAKE (CONT’D)
(reading)
"Car crashes into Seaside
construction site at 100 miles per
hour."
BLAKE (CONT’D)
(reading)
"Driver pronounced dead on scene.
One pedestrian severely injured."
MILLY
Today's news?
BLAKE
Yeah. Nortown Daily.
BLAKE (CONT’D)
(reading)
"Evidence of another passenger
found after inspection of the
site."
BLAKE (CONT’D)
(reading)
"Police is actively investigating
to identify and locate the
passenger."
BLAKE
Huh. Passenger dude sounds hella
sus, don't you think?
MILLY
Did they give a description of the
driver?
BLAKE
Lemme see...(pause)
(reading)
"Male, early 20s."
BLAKE (CONT’D)
If you ask me... sounds like
another one of them college kids'
fuckups.
Milly finishes the tattoo for Blake and gets up from her
chair. Blake also gets up from the tattoo bed.
MILLY
Alright--take a look.
BLAKE
Damnnn Milly! It looks great!
BLAKE (CONT’D)
Not gonna lie though--I wasn't sure
if you'd be able to do that faded
look, y'know?
MILLY
Dude, for real?
BLAKE
Just messing with you, haha.
MILLY
(sighs)
You play too much.
MILLY
Anyways, same drill. Leave the wrap
on for three days, use vaseline--
BLAKE
(dismissing)
Yeah yeah, I got it.
MILLY
Alright then. Time to take my smoke
break.
MILLY (CONT’D)
I'll catch you later, Blake.
INT. 2 TATTOO SHOP - DAY
Milly leaves her work station and walks to the center of the
tattoo shop, where her boss, Mr. Z, the owner of The
Blindfolded, is busy on his iPad.
Z
All done?
MILLY
Got two more later. You?
Z
I need to make a run in a bit to
get some supplies.
Z
But that idea you told me about
earlier--
(pause)
Z (CONT’D)
I think it's great.
MILLY
(excited)
THANK YOU!
Z
Do you have a rough idea of which
people you want to start designing
for?
MILLY
Got a list of people in my
sketchbook.
MILLY
But c'mon--the last thing Nortown
is missing out on are interesting
people, right?
Z
(subtly concerned and unsure)
And when you're done with these
designs...do you expect these
people to actually get them...?
MILLY
They might not even get to see
them.
MILLY (CONT’D)
Cause that was never the point in
the first place, Z.
Z
Got it.
Z (CONT’D)
Well-- make sure you at least show
me, okay?
MILLY
(laughs)
Yessir.
In the waiting area, Milly notices several people waiting.
She recognizes one of them as Frank, the guy who runs a
grocery store with his older brother downstairs to The
Blindfolded.
MILLY
(confused)
Frank?
FRANK
(joyful)
Milly!
MILLY
Never thought I'd see you up here.
You dropping something off?
FRANK
Yeah. My brother asked me to help
bring the sodas up for you guys.
FRANK (CONT’D)
But actually, I've been thinking
about getting a tattoo so...
thought I'd take a look.
MILLY
Nice! Do you have anything in mind?
FRANK
I was thinking about something like
a tattoo of cardboard boxes.
FRANK (CONT’D)
Like the ones we leave outside our
shop, y'know?
OPTION A: [Encourage him.]
MILLY
Hmm. Sounds pretty unique.
MILLY (CONT’D)
We can always get it done for you
during our after hours, but just
make sure that's what you wanna go
with.
MILLY (CONT’D)
After all the first tat is pretty
important.
FRANK
Yeah, I'll run it through with my
brother and see what he thinks.
MILLY
Just let me know when you decide,
okay?
FRANK
You got it! Thanks Milly.
OPTION B: [Confused]
MILLY
(subtly confused)
Huh?
FRANK
Yeah... I know it isn't as cool--
MILLY
No, no, not at all! It's just
uhh...
(hesitating)
does your brother know about this?
FRANK
Well you know how he is, I can't
tell him just yet.
MILLY
Just take some time to think it
over. It's probably better if you
let him know first.
MILLY
But hey, thanks for bringing up the
sodas.
FRANK
You got it!
INT. MILLY'S 3 OFFICE - DAY
Milly enters her office and opens the window, where she gets
access to the view on the street. She notices pedestrians on
the street, as well as Aki, her best friend and an izakaya
owner, standing outside by his bicycle.
Milly first clears her heads on things she needs to do.
MILLY
Let's see...two more appointments
left...
MILLY
Molly is coming over for the
weekend...
MILLY
Gotta help Z pick up the new
sculptures on Monday...
MILLY
Mhmm... really gotta find a time to
work on the collection.
As Milly thinks about her plan, Aki notices her by the window
and walks over.
IF MILLY CHOOSES TO SMOKE BY THE WINDOW:
AKI
(semi-yelling from a distance,
downstairs below the window)
I thought Mr. Z banned
you from smoking in your office?
MILLY
(unsettled)
Shhhhhhh!
MILLY (CONT’D)
(semi-yelling, suppressing voice
from the window)
Dude you are really trying to make
me get fired, aren't you?!
AKI
Well, just making sure a friend
knows what she is doing.
IF MILLY CHOOSES NOT TO SMOKE BY THE WINDOW:
AKI
(semi-yelling from a distance,
downstairs below the window)
Weird to see you popping out there
without a smoke.
MILLY
Not tryna get myself fired.
MILLY
You though--should you be chilling
out here when you got that line at
your restaurant?
AKI
Heading back right now. I was
getting my bicycle fixed.
MILLY
(subtly begging)
Are you really not gonna tell me
what that new drink is?
AKI
Have some patience, Mil. Just a
couple hours left.
MILLY
Ugh. Fine.
AKI
Promise me you won't get too drunk
tonight, okay?
MILLY
(dismissive)
Alright, alright.
Just as Milly is about to head back inside for her next
appointment, she gets a call from her mother. She answers.
MILLY
Hey mom, what's up?
MOM
...
MILLY
Mom? Are you there?
MOM
(over the phone)
Mil, you gotta come home as soon as
you can.
MILLY
(confused)
Huh? Why?
MOM
(unease, worried, confused,
nervous, over the phone)
Something happened... your sister,
she...
MILLY
(becoming worried and confused)
What? What happened? Is Molly
alright?
MOM
(over the phone, still worried)
She's... fine. She's with us right
now but... you gotta come and...
talk to her.
MILLY
But I thought...she was coming to
Nortown later...?
MOM
(pause)
There was a...car accident in
Seaside last night.
MILLY
Wait... my friend was just telling
me about a car accident...
MOM
Molly was there.
MOM (CONT’D)
She was in that car.
Milly's view begins fading to dark, as the flashback ends and
her mind is brough back to the present time.
